Bridge Program at Boise State University
What is the Bridge Program?
The Bridge Program is a select opportunity for you to strengthen your academic skills, build your confidence, and get off to a successful college start.
This two semester program helps you build college credit while acquiring skills in writing, math, and communications.
Summer 5-week session courses:
- COMM 101 - Fundamentals of Speech Communication
OR - ENGL 90 - Developmental Writing. Placement in this English class depends on your ACT/SAT score
- UNIV 197 - First Year Seminar
- Development of academic skills
- Assistance with transition to college
Classes start on July 13th and end on August 16th
Fall semester:
- ENGL 101 - English Composition
- COMM 101 if you did not take it in the summer
- MATH - Placement in math is based on your ACT/SAT scores. Your academic advisor will help you select the appropriate math course.
- UNIV 197- 1 credit course for continued support
- You will also be able to enroll in other courses, based on your major. An academic Advisor will work with you to select those courses.
Student Commitment
If admitted to the program, you are expected to:
- Have a desire to succeed academically
- Make the program your main priority over jobs and other commitments
- Attend class, complete assignments, and master course work
- Participate fully in all Bridge Program activities
- Continue into the fall semester by enrolling in ENGL 101 and a math course and participating in tutoring (if needed)
Student Expectations
Several required activities throughout the program are designed to support your transition to university life. Examples of these include:
- Orientation
- Campus tours
- Social and recreational activities
- Ongoing academic advising
Bridge Program Costs*
- Total cost - $1928
- $1398 class fees
- $150 Summer Bridge Program fee
- $150 New Student and Family Programs curriculum fee
- $30 ENGL 90 support fee
- Approximately $250 for books and supplies

Campus Housing
You are responsible for living arrangements during the bridge program. The costs of the Bridge Program do not include housing, although on-campus housing is HIGHLY recommended for Bridge Students. Housing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information about the current costs and availability of campus housing, please contact the student housing office at (208) 447-1001.
Financial Aid
Financial Aid is available for the Bridge Program. You can apply for federal financial aid by submitting the current financial aid year FAFSA as soon as possible. It usually take five weeks for aid to be processed and disbursed. Call (208) 426.1664 or click here for questions.
Enrolling in the Bridge Program
As part of the admissions process, you will be notified of your Bridge Program eligibility and will be sent a response form. Enrollment in the program requires the following:
- Return the Bridge Program response form (sent by Admissions).
- List and evaluate your academic strengths and weaknesses on the response form.
- Include an essay expressing your desire to attend Boise State, your commitment to the program and justification as to why you should be selected as a participant in the program.
- Please be advised that just because you apply, does NOT guarantee admission into the program.
