Mission Statement
Advising and Academic Enhancement's (AAE) mission is to provide academic resources and support services to students and the university community, while promoting student autonomy and responding to changes in individual and institutional needs in a timely manner.
Goals:
- Provide academic planning assistance and advising to:
- First year students
- At-risk students
- Students who are exploring majors
- Students in transition (moving from one major to another)
- Students who are experiencing academic difficulty including students on academic probation
- Students provisionally admitted to the University
- Students who have diverse needs (multicultural students, adult learners, undecided transfer students etc.)
- Students admitted to the Bridge Program
- Facilitate the major exploration process in collaboration with the Career Center.
- Support first year programs by coordinating the Bridge Program, Learning Communities, and UNIV 101U First Year Seminar.
- Coordinate campus-wide advising functions through chairing the Advising Council, facilitating the Faculty Advising Institute, and coordinating advising for New Student and Family Programs.
- Provide Support to the University community through coordination of the following:
- Faculty Advising Institute
- Provost's Excellence in Advising Award
- UNIV 101U instructor training and ongoing development
- Learning Community faculty support
- Student Affairs advising training
- Advising workshops
- Advising consultation
- Provide tutorial services to students enrolling in core and other pre-requisite courses at the university, including:
- Math Drop-In services
- Supplemental Instruction for science and other core classes
- Peer Study Group development
- Extreme Academic Makeovers
- Tutoring support on Blackboard
- Private tutoring referrals
- Academic Skill Building workshops
- Study Skills Resource Center
- Maintain a web presence aimed at the complete student population through the following URLs:
