Tips for Commuter Students
- Arrange your class, work and life schedules for success. For example, try not to schedule classes too early so you can avoid "rush hour" traffic or allow extra time needed for bad weather conditions.
- Keep your car in good running order. You'll save yourself frustration and lost class time.
- Buy a General parking permit that allows you to park in one of the outer parking areas of campus and catch the Shuttle. The Shuttle runs every ten minutes and is free!
- When the weather is good, park and walk. You'll find it a great way to fit exercise into your routine! But keep in mind, you'll need to practice good time-management skills to get to class on time.
- Save commuting time and join the Commuteride Program (345-7665) or Valley Ride (336-1010) or ride the BUS (336-1010). When someone else drives, you can use that time to study.
- Check out the bulletin boards on campus. Someone is always advertising for a commuter buddy. You could even post your own advertisement.
- Find a "study-buddy" with a similar class schedule and you will find it easier to coordinate study sessions.
- If you have time on campus between classes, use that time to study in the Library or take care of class-related business.
- Participate in campus activities. You'll meet some great people and may even find a commuting partner. Plus, you'll have fun! College is supposed to be fun too!
